More than 60 years ago, a new energy source burst upon the world. Ever since the atom first hit the public's consciousness, great claims have been made for its potential to revolutionise the world, free us from energy dependence and, most recently, help fight climate change. But it's not been an easy ride - for much of its life, nuclear energy has attracted as much criticism as praise and its proponents in industry and government have faced an ongoing battle to keep the atomic message alive, embracing all the techniques of advertising, PR and lobbying to help make their case.

Today, nuclear is poised at a critical juncture - on the one hand, great promises of a global nuclear renaissance, while on the other, damaging headlines at Fukushima and European governments led by Germany turning their backs on nuclear power for good. As the world faces vital questions about its energy future, now is the time to look again at the story of nuclear power's political fortunes - a story full of twists and turns, reinventions and startling comebacks - and to ask what the industry's history can teach us about the future of global energy.

Combining revealing interviews with politicians, industry insiders and expert commentators with genuine archive gems from the industry's PR vaults, The Greatest Story Ever Sold will trace the progress of nuclear energy in the US, UK, Europe and beyond, and take a closer look at the changing PR messages that have accompanied it throughout the ups and downs to shed a whole new light on the perennially controversial nuclear debate - one that shows no signs of going away any time soon...
